Well sorry for the gap in the updates but sadly late arrivals and late nights and late getting out of bed have been to blame. It seems that by taking the shortest route it normally means the slowest, and providing the better biking roads and little other traffic.

Wednesday 7th July 04

The GPS was certainly put to the test, it was programmed to take us to our destination in as short a distance as possible which normally means all the back roads, more fun little traffic and normally impossible to navigate by map. It worked a treat with only the occasional run along the odd farm track.

The plan was to go to Cartes (somewhere in France) this turned out to be a mistake, the town was too big and after many attempts to find a hotel we gave it up as a bad job so we pushed on 20 miles to Brassac a tiny village in France one hotel 2 bars. It was 8.30pm when we arrived hot tired and ready for a beer. The hotel was ancient quaint and cheap and only 42€ what a bargain and best of all was the bar across the road sold a quality pint of lager which was 6.4% tasty but evil. We all put it to the test and it worked.

Today's log 241 miles 6hrs 10 mins

Thursday

The lager which worked the night before had the early bird brigade up at 10.30am fed and on our way for noon, the scenery and roads where fantastic. Bt now all the waterproofs were safely packed away as the temperature topped 30C.

What a disaster on the timing another late run arriving in Nyons (no not Nyon) finding a hotel at 7.30pm. What a lovely quaint town. No one had a drinking head on tonight couple beers food (which we forgot to do the night before) bed promising an early start in the morning.

Today's log 190 miles 4hrs 55 mins

Friday

This is what the trip in about a bike meet and a chance to take the bike 11000 foot up the sommeiller mountain (which shares its name with our hotel).

The hit to bardonecchia (Italy) was one of the best runs (we always say that) good and fast, and no police. Scenery some of the best you will get.

The weather continues to be excellent.

The hotel had not changed since our last visit. The adverting states built in 1884 and retains much of its original character, this is true it has not been touched since.

The 10 original starters are now back together for the next 3 nights as we shall be stopping here till Monday

Total Log 140 miles in 3hrs

Saturday 10th July 04

The group split today into 2 those who could get out of bed and those who couldn't. I was of the later, missed breakfast and took till 1pm before a wheel turned on the bike. John, Denny and myself then had a run over a couple of passes back into France. The best of which being a run up the col d'Izoard at 2360 meters (7800ft) the temperature dropped from 23 at the base to 9 deg at the top.

In total we only managed 80 miles but they were good ones.

The town is now starting to busy up with a lot more bikes arriving ready for the run tomorrow.

it is now 1am and just managed to get connection sitting in dark ...philly snoring...looking foeward to the big one tomorrow..

thanks for looking and and please add comments to the guestbook..

the children will update ASAP they will not get out of bed .........
